COLORS
untitled-2
WHAT COLORS ARE MADE OF:

RED: derived from dried bodies of insects that live on oak or a species of cactus, also from Henna blossoms and cherries.
BROWN: is made from gall apples, nut galls. The darkest brown is usually made from oak apples.
YELLOW: comes from pomegranate rind, saffron, and turmeric.
GREEN: is a product of mixing indigo with one of the yellow dyes.

BLACK: can come from the wool of a dark sheep. In the dyeing process, it is a mordant made from garlic acid.
BLUE: is made from the indigo plant.

Today, synthetic dyes are probably as good as natural dyes. However, synthetic dyes are not likely to produce attractive irregularities.Machine made rugs have a restricted color range as well as having limitations in duplicating the detail of an old design.
