Weaving
The Loom
Today, almost all oriental rugs are made in factories, knotted to the rhythm of a chanter who is employed to keep them regular.
The weavers are further guided by a pattern and a color, like a number painting. In the past, tradition and an experienced eye guided them.
TURKISH VS. PERSIAN KNOTS
Turkish knots or Ghiordes are symmetrical knots having(double knotting) two warps.
Each end of the pile thread is wrapped all the way around the two warps, pulled downward, then cut.
Persian knots are asymmetrical single knots. While one end of thread is wrapped all the way around the warp, the other end goes just beside the other warp. After this both ends are pulled downward and cut.
